We caught up with KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer Lona Mabenya.

The 12th ingredient: KFC Mini-Cricket tops the scoreboard because of the selfless volunteers who Do Good.
Lona Mabenya, a coach and motivational speaker, is one of the more than 13 000 volunteers that injects life and excitement into the young participants of KFC Mini-Cricket. The passionate and inspirational community leader lives for and loves working with tomorrows superstars.

Lorna (39) was born in Ngqamakwe, Eastern Cape, and has been volunteering full-time for 6 years. She considers cricket a philosophical game in which you must think and time your moves perfectly. Her favourite element to teach is bowling and thrives on witnessing the difference she can make in children’s lives through sport.
“I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT A LARGE PART OF THIS PROGRAMME’S SUCCESS, IS THE COLLECTIVE EFFORT OF THE 13 000 VOLUNTEERS – WE HAVE A HUGE RESPONSIBILITY TO OUR CHILDREN, AND I PERSONALLY WANT TO GIVE THANKS TO THE COACHES.

KFC Mini-Cricket goes way beyond the field of play – so think wisely of the legacy that you coaches want to leave. Instilling the correct values, principles and promoting positive thinking and problem-solving will truly feed the potential of tomorrows stars, tomorrows community leaders. Through sport, we can build a better South Africa. We are enormously grateful to KFC for their partnership with CSA which enables us to continue to run this critical programme, which is so dear to so many lives.”
